Argentinian Patagonia

Fitz Roy Massif and Guillaumet Needle

Argentine Patagonia, in southern Argentina, is a land of indescribable beauty and wild nature. With unpredictable weather, imposing mountains, endless glaciers, and strong winds, it offers, like the Chilean side, a dramatic setting where any outdoor activity becomes an adventure.

This region attracts mountaineers, climbers, and adventurers from around the world. Iconic peaks such as Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy challenge even the most experienced with routes that demand skill, preparation, and respect for the mountain.

Alpine Climbing

Cerro Fitz Roy - Supercanaleta:
Cerro Fitz Roy - Franco Argentina
Cerro Fitz Roy - Afanasief:
Aguja Guillamet - Fonrouge Comesaña

Cerro Fitz Roy is an iconic, demanding Patagonian peak. Its vertical granite walls and harsh weather make it a benchmark for technical climbing and high-commitment mountaineering.

Supercanaleta: Follows a series of gullies and ramps to the summit, combining snow, ice, and rock sections. Sustained inclines in the upper part make conditions variable. Difficulty: AD+ to D.

Typical ascent duration: 5 days. Overall difficulty: high.

A classic, aesthetic route via the southwest ridge – 3,405 m of polished, exposed vertical granite, with some mixed rock and ice. Features high mountain big-wall sections, pitches to 6a–6b with aid (UIAA VI), and optional AI/A1 elements. Difficulty: D+ / ED.

Typical ascent duration: 5 days. Overall difficulty: high.

Historic, extremely direct route known for technical and psychological demands. Involves vertical granite and mixed sections, less frequently climbed, for very experienced teams. Difficulty: ED+ / 6b–6c, A2–A3.

Typical ascent duration: 5 days. Overall difficulty: high.

Fonrouge Comesaña: (2,580 m): This peak offers climbs of all types and is a good introduction to climbing in Patagonia. Typical duration is 3 days, with moderate difficulty. Notable routes include the NW Ridge/West Buttress: these routes reach 2,539 m and feature 600 m of solid rock, usually graded 5.6–5.10b (YDS) for rock and classified as 6b+/UIAA VI in local guides. If seeking a snow or ice experience, consider the following alternative route:

Amy Couloir Route on Aguja Guillamet (2,579 m): This snow and ice route ascends 450 m, graded as a snow/ice couloir up to 60°, finishing with mixed climbing on 5.8 YDS (UIAA V) rock.
